Parks

We live on the 4th floor of an apartment building.  We don’t have a yard so if we want to run around outside, we have to go to a park.  There are a couple of parks near us that we walk to, but sometimes we take a bus to a park or just happen to find one when we are out and about. We have been to 18 parks, which sounds like a lot!  But Malta has 158 public playgrounds so we still have a lot to go!  Thanks to Sylvia for her help with this post.  🙂

This is the closest park but now it is torn out because they are going to put in a new park.

This is the First Park or Little Park.  It is the closest park to us, but now it is torn out because they are going to put in a new playground.

This is the middle park. We call it the middle park because it's in the middle of the first park (closest to our flat) and the big park, which is farther away.

This is the Big Park. It is one of the only parks that has grass and it has the most stuff.

Wow! So cool! I don’t believe there were any parks when I was in Malta, and look at all of them now. At that time, I think all Rodney and Randy Hanson had to climb around on was our building. One time one of them hugged the building and crept along a small ledge between balconies to another to scare the other. They were on second floor, so it would have been really bad to fall to the sidewalk below. I know they did this because I watched one slip by our window, and nearly screamed.

When will you be back in Decorah? It will be just great to see you again!

Hi Beth! I can’t imagine what I’d do with the girls if we didn’t have parks! But I can imagine that kids would find a way to be active even without parks and do crazy things like climb buildings. Maybe that’s why Malta started putting in playgrounds – to protect the kids! Really, there are so many children here who don’t have a yard of any sort (I guess like any urban area) and I think the parks are a huge asset to the communities. I’m glad for everyone’s sake that Malta seems to have made it a priority (and with the help of EU money!). We will be back on 24 June. We leave here on the 16th and spend time in Germany before coming back to the states. I am looking forward to seeing you and being back in Decorah. P.S. We forgot a park so we added a photo and changed the number we’ve been to to 18. 🙂

I’m glad you have lots of parks there. We have lots in Zhubei too. In fact this weekend Bean was playing on the body twister exercise equipment just like you have there. From jenn

I remember seeing lots of exercise equipment from my time in China. I also remember seeing older people using it and just hanging out at the parks in general whereas here, it seems to be mostly young kids and their parents. I’m glad you have parks because being cooped up in a flat all day is no fun!
