Our Roatan Adventure

A birthday to remember!

I turned 42 on the 24th and I spent the day with Jon and the girls exploring more of the island.  We’ve been here almost 6 days and I am learning so much about the island, the people, the history and the culture.  It’s a great place to explore!

We started with a bus ride to Valletta, the capital of Malta. It is not as built up as Sliema and has an older feel to it. There were many, many people out walking in the streets.

There were many, many people out walking in the streets.  It looks like Christmas decorations were still up and there were loudspeakers playing Mozart as we walked along.  It was so lovely!

As in Sliema, the streets are very narrow and there is not much to the sidewalks.

We walked quite a bit along the ocean.

Taking a break from all the walking!

The girls were ready to take a break from walking to play at a playground.

Jon is checking the ferry schedule in the background. That iPad sure does come in handy! :)

So much to see!

We took the ferry back to Sliema for lunch. It's a great way to get from one city to the other.

Pizza! One with Maltese cheese and sausage, the other with proscuitto, rocket (arugula) and shaved Parmesan.

We took a bus to the north end of Malta to a town called Qawra. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the Malta National Aquarium.

Walking through a water tunnel.

My favorite - walking through a big tunnel with sharks, sting rays and lots of cool fish.

The coral reef displays were pretty neat, too.

The sharks were a bit scary, though.

I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting for each new report. Keep ’em coming!

I remember a place we ate pizza in Sliema called Il Fortizza. It was on a point on the east edge of the, right on the sea. We even jumped in the water off the rocks close by (although I don’t think any Maltese would ever do such a thing. Do you know the place I mean?

Tell your girls that I think they should learn the Maltese word for excuse me, since it’s crowded and they will probably be running into people. It sounds almost like excuse me, only it’s Skuzi. . . kind of like the Maltese for Happy Birthday- Heppi berdej. Glad you had a good one!

    P.S. I love the sunglasses!

I’m pretty sure I’ve walked past Il Fortizza several times – I’ll double check next time I’m out for my walk. We haven’t been there yet, but I’ll put it on my list! Lots of restaurants have specials right now in the winter to drum up a little business so we’ve been taking advantage of that!
