Our Roatan Adventure

Why we came here

We are in Roatan, Honduras because my dad and Victoria Christman are teaching a class here and they brought us along for the experience. As part of the class, all of the students have to do an internship at a local business here. Some of the internships include Clinica Esperanza, a few schools, and The SOL Foundation (an after school program for kids). Because some of our students are volunteering at Clinica Esperanza, we get to stay in the housing that they have for their volunteers.

We are in the ground floor apartment on the right.

One of the best parts about where we are staying is all of the kids that we have to play with. The Christman’s have 3 kids around our age and the VanZees (who run the place where we are staying) have 6 kids that range in age from 13 years to 9 months. There is always someone to play with, go to the beach with or swim with.

And we’re back – again!

Hi all! We’ve added to this blog in fits and spurts for some time now, mostly when we are living abroad. It just so happens that we are living abroad again, for nearly a month this time. Jon is teaching a January Term (J-Term) class for Luther College in Roatan, Honduras. We want to share some of our experiences with you, through stories and photos, and a blog is a great way to do that. We hope to all take turns sharing, so watch for different perspectives!

We left Decorah, IA on Friday, Jan. 4th and found ourselves on a tropical island the next day. It was lovely. 🙂 Here are a few photos from our first 2 days.
