Nebraska!

The girls and I made a trip to Nebraska last week to visit my family and attend the baptism of my niece, Aliyah.  We were pretty busy the whole weekend making stuff and playing with Aliyah.  We had a great time!

Both girls worked with Grandma to sew swim bags. It was fun to think about summer, the pool and swimming!

Sylvia made a large bag with lots of pockets to hold all the things she needs to take to the pool.

We made lots of baby food for Aliyah. Sylvia's cutting up apples for applesauce.

Valentines, seeds and the GBBC

Last weekend was Valentine's Day - one of our favorite holiday celebrations. We made Valentine bookmarks to give to our friends.

The girls got a little practice sewing before starting in on the bookmarks.

We ate at the counter for several days since our whole table was covered with our crafting!

We ate at the counter pretty much the whole time Jon was in Tanzania because our table was covered with our crafting!

Last weekend, we went to our favorite Valentine Party (well, our only Valentine Party, but still, we love it!).

February 14 – Valentine’s Day and the Pleasant Valley Valentine Party.  We love this party!  The kids just finished exchanging Valentines and now they are looking through their boxes.

We play fun games, like the Valentine Suck Relay (my made up name!). The kids have to suck up hearts with straws and transport them to the other side of the room.

We sing songs and dance, too!

And here's Lily in the cookie machine!

Not quite as exciting but fun nonetheless was our participation in the Great Backyard Bird Count last weekend. We went to Lake Meyer with some friends to count birds there - 11 different species!

And we counted at home, too. We counted eight different species.

At this time of year, our thoughts turn to spring. The days are getting longer (but certainly not warmer) and we love looking at the seed catalogs. We finally got our order together and Sylvia happily ordered them on-line.

What we’ve been up to!

I’ve been hard at work on a book with all our Malta photos and I’m having a great time going back through all the pictures.  In the meantime, I haven’t focused much on taking or posting current photos!  But here are a few pictures that depict what we’ve been up to lately.

Science Fun. The goggles are a must - you never know when the yeast will explode. :)

And moving right along from science to pretzels. Kitchen chemistry takes all forms!

More kitchen chemistry. Again, safety first.

And more cooking. We made food for 2 families - it was Sylvia's idea to bring meals to our friends. Lily is cutting up spaghetti for the Spaghetti Pie.

Lily made cookies to go along with the meal. She's not that into cooking, but she'll make anything that has sugar in it and that she can eat. :)
